In search of a better life -West Berbice miner beaten to death

A 24-year-old West Berbice man who left for the interior over two years ago in search of a better life for his mother was not able to fulfill his dream after he was beaten to death on Saturday night.

Reports are that Delon Sancho, a pork-knocker, was beaten to death by three persons and his body was flown to the city the same night. The man’s distraught mother, Claire Collins, 42, of Plantation Ross said when she received the news about his death around 6 am on Sunday morning she fainted.

The woman said a relative called to give her the news and her sister who answered the phone did not know how to tell her. “After she got the call I keep asking she what happened to Delon and when she tell me he dead I get blackout [fainted].”

The dead man’s distraught mother, Claire CollinsShe said she travelled to Georgetown on Monday to identify the body and she noticed that he had bruises on his two hands, his face was swollen and his eyes…

Masked men steal guns from home

Two masked men broke into a house at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway yesterday and stole two firearms and a video camera.

So far one person has been arrested and is helping police with their investigations.

Police in a statement said that around 9:45 am Bibi Sancho secured her Lot 377 Yarrowkabra home which is in the upper flat of a two-storey building and went out for a while leaving her maid in the lower flat of the building. The two suspects broke a window on the lower flat, entered the building and tied up the maid after which they broke into the upper flat and stole a .380 browning pistol, a 12-gauge single barrel shotgun and a video camera.

Woman accused of ganja in egg trays remanded

A 36-year-old Turkeyen woman who was allegedly caught at the Ogle airport with cannabis concealed in a stack of egg trays was on Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
Michelle Sancho, a shopkeeper of Lot 478 Third Street, Turkeyen denied a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, when it was read in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on May 13, Sancho had in her possession 280 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Reports are that on the day in question ranks from the police narcotics branch acting on information received went to the Ogle airport.

When Sancho arrived, the ranks identified themselves and asked to search the goods she was taking to Ekereku in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni area.
