Letters of Lammy Tuckness Sancho

This is part of the sense of gratitude I feel for a number of relatives. Thus this effort is dedicated to the lives and in loving memory of my most beloved ancestor, Muriel Eleese Burchelline Sancho (1914-1990), the daughter of Alexander Gustavus Sancho (1873-1945), the son of Lambert Tuckness Sancho (1849-1924), my brother Colin Patrick Ross (1954-1981), Aunt Elsa Sancho (1908-1966), Uncle Oswald Sancho (1922-1984), and my beloved Cousins Gwendolyn Ralph (1912-2008), and Brenda Abrams (1941-2008), the daughters of Emma Francina Ralph (1880-1918) and Eileen Esme Abrams (1899 -1966), the daughters of Lambert Tuckness Sancho (1849-1924), Baiya Sharper (1915-1977), and Sheila Sharper (1925-1977), son and daughter of Edith Sancho (1890-1952), the daughter of Lambert Tuckness Sancho (1849-1924).
These two letters written by Lambert Tuckness Sancho (1849-1924) afford me and other relatives the opportunity to glimpse at his thought process, academic abilities, intellect, ideology and his advocacy. It is remarkable to note that the struggle in the last two decades of the nineteenth century bears strikingly similarities to the struggle in the twentieth and twentieth-first centuries. I am ecstatic. I am proud of the efforts of my great-grandfather. I am also happy to note the coconut rarely falls far from the tree. The letters could have been written by me. They reflect a mind set which is of the consciousness and the advocacy of the struggles of the underprivileged working class people of the colony of British Guiana. Long live Tuckness Sancho, long live the people of Sancho everywhere.

THE VILLAGERS GRIEVANCES: A CONTRADICTION - TO THE EDITOR: “DAILY CHRONICLE”

Sir, - Permit me through this medium of your columns to make a few remarks with reference to certain statements, contained in a letter published in your issue of the 28th inst., bearing the signature of “Not a Villager”.
Whoever this person may be he asserts that the lease of the Golden Grove empolder “did not make proper efforts to thoroughly put into order the dams which he had already seen were not trust-worthy,” and further on, that it was owing to the slip-shop manner in which the dam was made up. Now these statements are quite untrue. I, as, Village Overseer, have actually paid to labourers for working at the said dam during the early part of the present year, the sum of $4,000, on behalf of Mr. Jose Ferreira, the Lessee. I had orders from the Superintendent of villages to supervise the dam aback daily, which I always did, and to show that Mr. Ferreira used every possible means to secure the dam, I will just mention this: in the month of January, “in consequence of the heavy rainfall, on going aback, I found that the dam was washed over, and this being brought to Mr. Ferreira’s notice, he lost no time in making a sniouse around the dam, and since then it resisted the pressure of water up to the time of this accident. On the 18th instant, whilst on my way to Georgetown, I received information, to my great astonishment that the dam which I had left safe had broken away, and the water was rushing with great force. I hurried to the spot and found the dam cut across in two places; one cut was ten feet in width, and the other was eight feet. I suspect that these breaches were made by some enemy of Mr. Ferreira, for there was not a leak on that spot to cause a breach. The breach in Mr. Ferreira’s empolder did not damage the other empolder at all, and the villagers have no cause of complaint. If the villagers had any grievance, or sustained any damage, they are quite intelligent enough to lay it in the proper quarter.
I am Sir, and c.,

A VILLAGER’S SUGGESTION - TO THE EDITOR: “DAILY CHRONICLE”
Sir, - on the evening of the 24th inst., a lecture was delivered at the Golden Grove Wesleyan Chapel, by the Rev. Mr. Adams. It is very seldom that we villagers are afforded an opportunity of listening to lectures, and therefore, I was heartily glad to be present. In the rural districts when evening comes the villagers, many of whom are intelligent, have no place of resort to obtain intellectual food, and it is with a desire to impress this necessity which exists on the minds of those amongst us who are capable of doing this, that I write this letter, the villagers have nowhere to go, and wander. I would throw out the suggestion to the Rev. Mr. Tabraham, especially as he is striving hard for the Temperance cause amongst the villagers, that he would be conferring an inestimable boon on myself and the others, by treating us to a few hours’ address in the evening, of a similar character to the one Mr. Adams gave us.
Mr. Tabraham happened to meet several persons in a drunken condition on the road at Golden Grove, a few Sundays ago, and he remonstrated with them.
Mr. Tabraham would find his efforts crowned with success if he delivered periodical addresses to people.
It is of no use trying to reform a man in a drunken condition.
I am Sir, and c.,

Estelle, Nelly and Rickford Beaton relatives of James Donald Ainsworth?

Estelle, Nelly and Rickford Beaton are related to Arno and Dolphin or Ainsworth
Myrna Simon, Emerson Simon and Conrad Joseph  on People of the Past.
Baby King and Boodoo Hamilton
Baby King is Aunt Mamsel’s daughter. Miriam Oliver is the name of Aunt Mamsel.  Aunt Mamsel is a great aunt of Conrad Joseph. Aunt Mamsel was self-employed. She was an entrepreneur. She sold food items on the Demerara Railway (the trains on the East Coast of Demerara).  Adina (Auntie Teth); and Baba Forde are sisters of Aunt Mamsel.  Aunt Mamsel was married to a white man. Plummer is the name of the husband of Aunt Mamsel.  Calvin Plummer is a son. There were several others. Waveney is the name of the last child of Aunt Mamsel.  Waveney is about 86 years, old. She resided in Brooklyn and Guyana. It appears she winters in Guyana.
Waveney is probably mother of Lynette Andrews-Archer

The sisters resided at Beterverwagting.  They are members of the kinship of Sharper. They are somehow related to two Sharples brothers.  Lionel Sharples was employed as a cook on a cruise ship. He was light skinned in complexion. The other Sharples’ brother was dark-skinned. He was employed in the Mosquito control department of the Department of Health... The Department of Health used DDT to control the spread of disease spread by mosquitoes.

  1. Adam Gillis’s mother is related to Mary (Sharper) Beaton.
  2.  Estelle Beaton (born 1900); Nelly Beaton (born January 15, 1902); Rickford Beaton (born 1904)
  3.  George Harry is a son of Estelle Beaton. Estelle Beaton was very closely associated with Muriel Sancho. She regularly prepared delicacies for Muriel and her family when they were resident over the line at the Middle Walk at Nabaclis.
  4.  Estelle Beaton, Nelly Beaton and Rickford Beaton grew up in the household of James Donald Ainsworth.
  5.  Estelle Beaton, Nelly Beaton and Rickford Beaton are somehow related to Arno and Dolphin or Ainsworth.
  6.  Ethel Dolphin (Mrs. James Donald Ainsworth), Leon Ainsworth, Ivor Ainsworth, Emile Ainsworth, Constance Ainsworth and Leslie Redvers Dolphin Ainsworth.  Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Dolphin, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Dolphin, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Arno.
  7.  Nelly Beaton was a teacher and later a caterer.
  8.  Frederick Simon’s sister, Baby Waldron and Gussie Lawrence were married.  The children of Baby Waldron and Gussie Lawrence are: Joseph Lawrence (Police Officer, BGPF), Lorna Lawrence, Samuel Lawrence (Police Officer, BGPF), Ivor “Boba” Lawrence (Police Officer, BGPF), Cedric Lawrence, Oscar Lawrence and Winston “Saygo” Lawrence, overseer of Victoria Belfield Village District.
  9. The mother of Frederick Simon had at least four children with four different persons. They are Frederick Simon; Baby Waldron, a relative of Stella Waldron; Lila Adams; and the mother of Baby King and George King.
  10.  Who is the Campbell ancestor of Frederick Simon? Is it his mother or father? What are the names of the parents of Frederick Simon?
Emerson Simon told me; two of his uncles resided at Golden Grove.  One of his uncles resided at waterside at Golden Grove. That would be in Bush Corner. Mavis Simon resided at Bush Corner. Thus she is likely a relative of Frederick Simon. The other resided at line top at Golden Grove. That information suggests the family of James Rodwell Simon is relatives of Frederick Simon. What’s your understanding? Who must I consult? He also stated Eardley Simon and Winslade Simon sound familiar to him. I told him they were schoolmasters. I met them in New Amsterdam when I was a very young child. However, they are sons of James Rodwell Simon of Golden Grove.
Emerson Simon also told me; Donald Ainsworth and Wally Ainsworth may have some knowledge of the relationship of Estelle Beaton, Nelly Beaton and Rickford Beaton and their ancestors, and other relatives. I must consult them. Emerson Simon was probably referring to Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Dolphin, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Dolphin, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Arno.  Please note:  Sharper is likely the common thread among
the mother of James Donald Ainsworth and known relatives of Estelle Beaton, Nelly Beaton and Rickford Beaton.

The questions are;
  1. How Estelle Beaton, Nelly Beaton and Rickford Beaton are relatives of James Donald Ainsworth?
  2.  Do they share DNA of immediate relatives with the mother of James Donald Ainsworth?
  3. What is the exact relationship of John Sharper and Tuckness Sancho?  One has to obtain scientific information for a number of persons really do not possess similar DNA but are simply relatives by upbringing.
  4. Who must I consult respecting the relatives of the people mentioned herein?

William Sancho, at Buxton, 1880s - 1890s?

Are you aware of William Sancho, ca. 1880s - 1890s?  He was convicted of numerous  petty criminal activities, Old William Sancho certainly had it rough. obviously, this Sancho sympathize with his sufferings. However, because of the colonial records this Sancho became aware of the human experience. And for that truth and reality this Sancho is extremely grateful, Bit alas, their is no genealogical information available in print. If  Old William was birthed before 1869; perhaps the names of his immediate relates are available in the district.

Delon Sancho Beaten to Death

In search of a better life -West Berbice miner beaten to death

A 24-year-old West Berbice man who left for the interior over two years ago in search of a better life for his mother was not able to fulfill his dream after he was beaten to death on Saturday night.

Reports are that Delon Sancho, a pork-knocker, was beaten to death by three persons and his body was flown to the city the same night. The man’s distraught mother, Claire Collins, 42, of Plantation Ross said when she received the news about his death around 6 am on Sunday morning she fainted.

The woman said a relative called to give her the news and her sister who answered the phone did not know how to tell her. “After she got the call I keep asking she what happened to Delon and when she tell me he dead I get blackout [fainted].”

The dead man’s distraught mother, Claire CollinsShe said she travelled to Georgetown on Monday to identify the body and she noticed that he had bruises on his two hands, his face was swollen and his eyes and ears had blood stains. When she returned yesterday to witness the post-mortem she observed a big gash behind his head as though he was hit with a heavy object.

He was clad in a pair of brown shorts and his body was covered in clay, suggesting that he was working “in the pit” at the time of his demise. She described Delon as always mannerly and said he did not deserve such a death.

Collins said her son sent money often to support her and his three siblings and that he was the sole breadwinner of the family. She recalled sadly that the last time she saw her son was in October 2006 when he returned for her mother’s funeral.

She yearned to see him and occasionally when he called he kept promising to visit her but this was not to be. Before leaving for the interior, Delon worked as a labourer with rice farmers until a friend took him away to work in Georgetown.

Shortly after, the friend offered him an opportunity to work in the interior and he gladly accepted.

The woman who was involved in “buying and selling” said she is unable to continue that business and now she does not know how she would survive.

She is also worried about how she would be able to care for her 20-year-old son who was diagnosed with a heart condition, her 17-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son. (Shabna Ullah)

Tuckness Sancho and Bentick Sancho in British Guiana.

Kinship:Tuckness Sancho & Bentick Sancho

Among the multitude of public prints, it is hard to say which lyes the most. --Ignatius Sancho; (1729 - 1780), January 5, 1780.

An Account of the Story of the Sancho family, 1848-2005 written of Guyana, by M’lilwana Osanku.

Tuckness Sancho and  Bentick Sancho in British Guiana.

There are several versions concerning the origins of the brothers; Bentick, and Tuckness Sancho.  I have chosen herein to present to the best of my abilities my reminiscences of the oral accounts as told to me by my dearest ancestor; Muriel and her generation of family members, and residents of the Golden Grove and Nabaclis community, whose presence I was fortune to share on numerous occasions.
I recognize there are numerous members of our kinship who are much more qualified and capable, and worthy to pen an article of such magnitude.
Thus having stated the preliminaries, I shall now attempt to condense the known history of the Sancho family, spiced with my thoughts, observations, and speculations; concerning the future of Sancho as a people, and what must be the goals of researchers in the future.

WHO ARE THE SANCHOS?
The Sancho families, who are our kinfolks, are a people of "African Origins". It is obvious our people as a unit are a microcosm of the African experience in Africa, Europe, and the Americas, which occurred during the last six hundred years. The exact date in which our known forefathers; Bentick
Sancho, and Tuckness Sancho were born in Demerara; remains unknown. The dates of birth, dates of death, the names of ancestors, siblings, relatives, place of origin,  of Bentick Sancho, and Tuckness Sancho, are all unknown.

The information which has survived, by means of the oral traditions, states, in the era of the British Slave Emancipation and Apprenticeship, three Black men, biological brothers; Christopher Bentick Sancho, John Sancho, and Tuckness Sancho, were born in London; is false. A forefather, born to enslaved parents, on a slave ship on its way to the West Indies. The child, at a very young age, was taken from the West Indies to England and there was raised by three white women. This piece of information is relevant to Charles Ignatius Sancho.
The three brothers, left England, and arrived in colonial British Guiana, prior to January 5, 1848. The Sancho brothers were employed in the sugar industry, at Plantation Enmore, located on the East Sea Coast, in the county of Demerara, in the colony of British Guiana. Bentick Sancho, John Sancho, and Tuckness Sancho, resided, for a while in the Golden Grove -Nabaclis community, on the East Coast of Demerara. Again false.
It is documented that the plantations Golden Grove, was  purchased on January 5th, 1848. Bentick Sancho, and Tuckness Sancho, are among  shareholders and joint-proprietors who purchased  Plantation Golden Grove,  on January 5, 1848.

Bentick Sancho is among  shareholders and joint-proprietors who purchased  Plantation Nabaclis,

Thus, it is the earliest proven date in the Guyana phase of the Sancho experience. The following are the names of the proprietors:- Prince Grant; Jupiter Quashey; Lina Hercules; John Sumner; Bentick Sancho; Filbert Horatio; Cheesewright Josiah; Ben Conwright; Sophy David; Leah Giles; James Smith; Rowland Chester; Job Timmany; Luke Philip and Gotina Stout; Bristol Newport; Philip Daniel; Tuckness Sancho; Quashey Luke, and Prince Asan; Benjamin Solomon; Robert Europe; Wellington Rogers; Sambo Sumner and Quammy David; Andrew Lexey; Joseph Beard; Sam Sarrabo; Blackwell Simon; Frederick Hope; Billy George; Frank Seaforth; Grenville Green; Billy Billieson; Duke Cato; George Jack; Charles Christmas; Diamond Chester; Stewart Smith; Daniel Virgil and Margaret McArthur; Sam Dick and Jack Newport; Sammy Richard; Sampson Collins; Douglas Hector and James Simon and George Timmany.

A list of persons qualified as Jurors for the County of Demerara, published in October, 1873 - tells us that John Sancho of the Parish of St. Paul was employed as the Village Overseer of Golden Grove and Nabaclis district, c. January 1872.

It was said, An atmosphere, of women related problems, led John Sancho to abandon British Guiana. It is understood, John Sancho migrated to Trinidad, and there, lived a settled life. It is known Catherine Elizabeth Sancho who married Mr. Thomas Arthur Archer on August 9, 1888, is one of John Sancho's children. Thomas Arthur Archer was a Second Class certificated schoolmaster at the following institutions; Golden Grove Wesleyan, ca. 1888, Anna Catharina Scots, ca. 1902, and Philadelphia Scots ca. 1917.  Catherine Elizabeth Sancho is an ancestor of the academically and musically talented and renown  Loncke family. Information has reached Sanchos of Guyana - relating that a Mr. John Sancho, and his wife, Elizabeth Sancho, are resting in peace in the Anglican Cemetery in Princes Town, Trinidad. It is quite possible - that John Sancho of Fifth Company Village, Moruga - is John Sancho, brother of Bentick and Tuckness Sancho. The opinion is the Afro-Sanchos of Fifth Company Village, Moruga, Princes Town, and Point Fortin in Trinidad and Grenada, are principally descendants of John Sancho.
Tuckness Sancho relocated in Buxton- Friendship district.  Tuckness Sancho was a landed proprietor in Friendship Village, on the East Sea Coast of Demerara. The Colonial Registrar’s Office tells us Tuckness Sancho was a landed proprietor in Friendship, East Coast, Demerara, and he died, prior to Saturday, January 18, 1873. It is believed members of the following families; Gill, Luke, Riley, Smith, Paul, Yaw, Blair, Lewis, and Sancho of the Buxton- Friendship Village District, are numbered among the descendants of Tuckness Sancho.  Tuckness Sancho’s date of death and his place of burial remain unknown.
DESCENDANTS OF BENTICK, AND TUCKNESS SANCHO.

I have not identified any of the children of Tuckness Sancho. Sanchos of Buxton-Friendship district - who are not the descendants of Bentick Sancho, are all very likely descendants of Tuckness Sancho.

Most accounts indicate John Sancho had a very serious problem - women. Such an addiction for female companionship would be the reason for John Sancho to move from one location to another, before he finally abandoned British Guiana. John Sancho settled down, married Elizabeth and raised a family in Moruga, in Trinidad.  Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth (nee Sancho) Archer whose mother is a Miss Weatherspoon - is the only child of John Sancho born in British Guiana - I have identified to date.

Bentick Sancho - it is understood married a woman named Mary. Bentick and Mary Sancho are known to issue two children; Mary Sancho and Lambert Tuckness Sancho. Mary Sancho, I am told died following the birthing of Lambert Tuckness Sancho. Mary Sancho is one of seven Sanchos entombed in the vault in Golden Grove cemetery.
Edmond Sancho left Demerara, and was never seen or heard from again in Nabaclis and Golden Grove Village District. It is believed Edmond Sancho lived a settled life, in Rose Hall Village on the Corentyne Coast, in the county of Berbice, in the colony of British Guiana. It is believed Edmond Sancho is Ed. Sancho, Member of the Local Authorities of Rose Hall Village District on the Corentyne Coast, 1918-1922. The opinion is a number of the members of the Sancho families of Berbice are descendants of Edmond Sancho.
Reverend William Hudson writing about the role of Methodists during the Angel Gabriel Riots of February, 1856 - tells of Mr. Bentick Sancho's leadership skills, and his efforts to prevent loss of life and  damage  to property of people of Portuguese heritage between Enmore and Belfield  on the East Sea Coast, of Demerara.
The descendants of Christopher "Boss Bentick" Sancho represent a much clearer picture. Bentick Sancho's children, Mary and Lambert Tuckness Sancho, are members of the first generation of Sanchos who were born in British Guiana. It is the descendants of Catherine Elizabeth, Mary and Lambert Tuckness Sancho are most widely; known.
Mr. Tappin Johnson Elliott was born between 1853 and 1857, in Sandvoort, a little village, a farming community, on the Canje River, in the County of Berbice. Indications are Mr. Tappin Johnson Elliott, and two of his siblings; John and Thomas R. F. Elliott, emerged from humble beginnings of an Afro centric rural and communal society. They became gainfully employed in the field of education as school teachers. Mr. Elliott was knowledge enough to pass the entrance examination, being selected and attended the Bishop's College for the Training of Teachers from 1872 to 1875. Among the group of Schoolmasters who were Student Teachers trained at Bishop's College, (1872 - 1875), are the following; Mr. Joseph A. Parkinson; Tappin Elliott's closest friend, who also became a resident of the Golden Grove and Nabaclis community, Mr. Daniel E. Sharples (Head Master for 40 years at St. Thomas Scots School, beginning on July 1, 1876), Mr. Paul A. Jones (Head Master, Taymouth Manor), and Mr. F. A. R. Sutherland (Head Master, Danielstown).

Mr. Thomas Elliott was the schoolmaster at Plaisance Congregational school in 1886 and at Main Street Roman Catholic School in 1888.
Mary Sancho married Benjamin Sandy. Their daughter, Annie Sophia Sandy married Tappin Johnson Elliott, on April 17, 1884. The Elliott and Sandy union reproduced a family of the following nine known children; Henry J. Elliott, Wilfred R. Elliott, Mildred Angela Elliott, Alice Matilda Elliott, Edward S. Elliott, Sophia Annie Mizpah Elliott, Sidney B. Elliott, Annie Kathleen Elliott, and Victoria Lavina Elliott.  The Elliott family were and are a family of school teachers, and Registrars of Births and Deaths, and Participants in Community Development in Golden Grove and Nabaclis, and Neighboring Communities.
Three of his daughters; Alice Matilda Elliott, Annie Kathleen Elliott, and Victoria Lavina Elliott, and two of his sons - in - law, the brothers; Prince Josephus Patterson brothers; Prince Josephus Patterson, and Cecil Orpheus Philbertus Patterson, were school teachers. The Patterson brothers also became School Masters, and their sister was also a school teacher. Mildred Angela Elliott and Annie Kathleen Elliott married two brothers, Prince Josephus Patterson, and Cecil Orpheus Philbertus Patterson. Mr. Tappin Johnson Elliott, and his two sons-in-law, was three prominent schoolmasters, who were all born in Canje river valley in Berbice, British Guiana.  The marriages to Archer, Elliott, and the Patterson brothers, influenced, ushered in, and continued the era of Sancho as an educator.
Mr. Tappin Elliott was certainly a member of the working class, and actively participated in organizations which promoted the soci-economic development process in the Golden Grove and Nabaclis district. It is said Mr. Tappin Elliott employed the donkey and cart as his preferred means of transportation, when he embarked upon his many sojourns to conduct his activities. It is noted Mr. Tappin Elliott, and his son, Mr. Wilfred Elliott were participants at the same period, in organizations within the Golden Grove and Nabaclis community. There is no doubt Mr. Wilfred Elliott was influenced by his father. Mr. Ernest Elliott is continuing in such a tradition of community affairs, the legacy of his ancestors; Mr. Tappin Johnson Elliott, his grand father, and indeed, a founding father of the district, Mr. Christopher "Boss" Bentick Sancho, his great great grand father. Mr. Tappin Elliott was the Registrar of Births and Deaths, for the region which included Golden Grove and Nabaclis district, for many years. Mr. Joseph Alfred Trotman was the Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths. Miss Victoria Lavina Elliott succeeded her father in the office, with her sister, Mrs. Mildred Angela (nee Elliott) Patterson as the Deputy. Mrs. Patterson became the Registrar of Births and Deaths, following her sister's death in February, 1945, and held the office until Miss Josephine Patterson, her daughter, followed in the footsteps of her grand father, aunt, and mother, in that capacity in the region; until the PNC Government saw it fit to reform the colonial system.

The Elliotts are a family of teachers, for a noticeable amount of the members of the Elliott clan were gainfully employed in the field of Education. Keith Jeune, Josephine Patterson, Abiola Willis, Ave Willis, and Paulette Willis, I would not be at all shocked to learn that today, such a statement would still very truthful. Thus, the Elliotts, descendants of Sancho, are a family, who made an indelible mark and created a legacy as a family of Teachers, Registrars of Births and Deaths, and participants in Community Development in Golden Grove and Nabaclis, and neighboring communities.

Lambert Tuckness Sancho
Lambert Tuckness Sancho, participated, between 1893 and 1924, serving for about 25 years, as a Member of Council of the Local Authorities of the Golden Grove and Nabaclis Village District.

This Sancho hails every mother of Sancho who neither give gifts to Sancho males nor required or encouraged their Sancho males to adopt and name their other children - Sancho. Such females truly love and respect Sancho ancestral heritage and lineages, possesses self-love, self-respect, high self-esteem, and love for ancestral consciousness.

THE Guyana Defence Force has refused to confirm if Private 21066 Dellon Nero was on duty when he met his demise on Saturday afternoon in the New River on the Corentyne in Berbice, where he was posted to perform defence duties.

A GDF bus makes its way to the home of the late Private Dellon Nero

Private Dellon Nero had been working with the GDF for the past seven years, according to relatives. He reportedly drowned when a boat in which he was travelling toppled in the river. This publication was unable to confirm whether Nero was alone in the GDF boat, but the craft was reportedly in the area where ranks would usually carry out their security and patrol operations.

The Guyana Chronicle was told that the father of one was not a swimmer. When this publication contacted the Guyana Defence Force yesterday, a senior communications officer would not confirm if the rank was on active duty when he died, but would only say that the young man was posted to the area.

It was further communicated to this newspaper that a team of investigators from the GDF are in the area, and it is only when they return to the city that the facts surrounding the death of the private would be known.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, Nero’s sister Shonette Sancho, 22, said his death has really affected her, but she would have to hold up until the funeral. She said she had received a phone call which informed that her brother had drowned. “I saw him (in) December. He is a person that loves his job and loves to explore. I’m very disappointed at his death. He don’t know to swim,” Shonette Sancho revealed.

Nero was said to be the only son of his mother, June Sancho, and the only brother of his sister, Shonette Sancho. Asked how Nero’s mother felt about his death, Shonette said she dropped to the floor and couldn’t believe the news. His mother has been devastated by the news. She was speechless and in mourning when this publication approached her. All she could manage to mutter was, “Dellon is my only son”.

Nero’s body was recovered early Sunday morning, and flown into Georgetown later that day. Investigators from both the Guyana Defence (GDF) and Police forces (GPF) were flown to the area where the incident occurred to investigate the matter.
