Highest blessings to the underprivileged working people struggling daily to survive inept politicians and their politics of man-made dilemmas now affecting and afflicting indigenous people of the planet everywhere on Earth.
I can assure you; the image and the experience of the kinship of Sancho is simply a microcosm of that of the indigenous of this planet Earth, and especially during the last 600 years in the Americas.
I must emphasis; the behavior of a few members of a kinship of a people does not represent the consciousness of the vast majority of the people of that particular social order, that community, and or that ethnic group.
I can assure you; as far back as I can remember; I can not recall any period in the story of our people in which our ancestral heritage has come under such immense scrutiny. Certainly the kinship of Sancho has never been, so compromised, I am positive; since our ancestors were caught, kidnapped and brought from “Africa” to the “Americas” – the people labeled Sancho has not experienced such trying times as they have during the last seven years in Guyana. When I begun the process of researching, and documenting the story of Sancho, I could not have imagined; there would be members of the kinship of Sancho, who were accused of heinous crimes such as murder, and robbery under arms. I expected to be made aware of the names of my relatives who were in Civil Court. I expected they were found guilty of charges such as Child Support, Domestic Abuse, Disorderly Conduct, Indecent Language, Traffic Offences, Assault, Petty Larceny, Divorce, and land related issues.
A few months ago; one of my first cousins; a female, told me, she had heard that the residence of our late beloved Uncle at Buxton was used by the gunmen at that location. I did not want to believe what I was hearing. But then again I realized the old clique – where there is smoke there is fire - may be very applicable; for during the last seven years, and/or there about a disproportionate amount of acts of violence has displayed members of the kinship of Sancho resident in the Buxton-Friendship Village District were either perpetrators or victims. The vast majority were victims. Their human rights were violated. Vivian Joseph, a Police Officer, was murdered in his bed. Randy Joseph, his younger brother was shot by gangsters. the younger brother was shot reportedly for being the brother of a policeman. Sancho females, and other members were awoken from their sleep.  They were questioned about the whereabouts of their sons. It is said despicable acts were committed against the females. I have no idea whether these rumors are truthful. However, I do believe the truth is found within the rumors. Rondell Rawlins did  not have love for  the people of Sancho. If he did he would not engage in recruiting young boys of the people of Sancho to run around with him. Rondell Rawlins can not love the people of Buxton and Friendship, and have young boys of Buxton and Friendship committing atrocities. I have a message for all of the would be gangsters and gunmen – it is leave our boys and girls alone – keep your distance from our sons and daughters – show us some love – show our people some love let them pursue and acquire academic training and qualifications do not teach them to murder people they were not birthed for the purpose to commit acts which reproduced mayhem, and destruction. That’s certainly not their image it is learnt behavior.
While I can not determine how many members of the kinship of Sancho has participated in serious criminal offenses against the people and the state of Guyana; I am aware; Troy Sancho and Dwayne Sancho are numbered among the perpetrators. I must also point out several members of the people of Sancho are numbered among the people who were victimized by gun toting bandits marauding all over the nation. Several members of the kinship of Sancho lost their lives as a result of wounds inflicted against their being, by the violent men terrorizing the nation.
The disciples of self-hatred, death and destruction, have unleashed a reign of terror upon the underprivileged working class people of the Guyanese society. What is abundantly clear is that the acts of terror are not restricted to the Rondell Rawlins and his group of baby-faced outlaws. The reoccurrences and the victims of criminal acts are all too numerous. The acts of the criminals are all too widespread for one group. Unless of course, Rondell Rawlins and his group of baby-faced killers operate in numerous cells.

I was most surprised to encounter an article which pointed out a man named Sancho was an Obeah Man, just prior to the last quarter of the nineteenth century. I can assure you; that would be more than enough to force my mother to restrict herself to dwell within the confines of her residence for an extended period. I can assure you ; Sancho, an Obeah Man would not be welcomed in any conversation among the females of the generations prior that in which I am a member.
However, from the early morning hours of May 6, 2002 to this very day, the people of Sancho, has experienced very trying times to put it mildly. The experts, and/or the academic professionals in the field of studies of Behavioral and Social Sciences and especially those involved in Criminal Justice may very well determine high sounding terms relevant to attach to the propensity of our young people to involve themselves in immoral pattern of behavior- which is now bedeviling our people everywhere.

At this very minute in the annuals of the history of Guyana, unprecedented acts of total, callous and blatant disregard for human life and property of others have been etched in the hearts and minds and lips of the vast majority of the society.
The agricultural based industries which included the structure of plantation economics which gave birth to the independence movements in the colony of British Guiana has been replaced by the culture of gang life in Guyana, with all its destructive elements in this the post independent period in which we are living.
This misguided practice has resulted in retardation and under-development of numerous communities. These communities were the leading lights in the progressive movements which reproduced the backbone of the Guyanese Society. The Village Movement is clearly the main impetus of the socio-economic and political development of the people which propelled the society from the Colonialism of British Guiana to nationhood of Guyana. It was the underprivileged working class people who moved our people from colonization to independence. The Village Movement ignited the independence movement. The result; the colony of British Guiana became the nation known as Guyana on the 26 May 1966.
To-day, after 16 years of the administration of PPP/C Government; these communities, and others including Port Mourant and Enmore, have not been revitalized. The declining fortunes of the comities begun in the period of the illegal administration of the Burnham dominated and led PNC with its illogical and impractical paramountcy of the Party, which is said to have bankrupted the nation.
Ever-since returning to power; the PPP /C Government; has not done anything to heal the wounds inflicted upon the society by the atrocities of the PNC and its policies. In fact, the culture of illegal drug trade has contributed to the criminalizing of our people and our communities. Once vibrant communities have been under-siege ever since by criminals hiding under the veil of ethnicity in the climate of politics of racism.
The Historiology of Buxton and Friendship and other so-called African communities on the East Sea Coast of Demerara is littered with amazing efforts of the struggles of humans to overcome the ambitious economic system of exploitation known as slavery on the American landmass.
It is clear, during the last seven years acts of violence, and man’s inhumanity to man has reached epidemic proportions, in Guyana.
It has been reported and many have believed Roger Khan and his cocaine enterprise is responsible for about 200 deaths in Guyana. I have, at this juncture, simply stated a passing interest in the trails, tribulations and the exploits of Roger Khan. Perhaps, when Roger Khan begins to name names and incriminate politicians and religious leadership I will then begin to pay more attention to what he is reported as saying. As long as I have not heard the names such as Roger Luncheon, Bharrat Jagdeo, Donald Ramator, Kellawan Lall el. al. I really would not consider Roger Khan is being forthcoming. Thus I really would not care; unless of course, Roger Khan admits to the murders of numerous members of the kinships of Bentick, Campbell, Friday, Kissoon, Sancho, Solomon, and Young and others relatives of mine. On either side of the equation, in recent months, Rondell Rawlins and his gang of babies has drawn my attention, my ire, my disbelief and my disdain. Rondell Rawlins and his gang of babies have no qualms relative to violating the human rights of people. They display blatant disregard for life, limb, and property. They are totally unwholesome. Their behavior must be repudiated. Certainly, the pattern of behavior projects the negative imaginary numerous members of the other so-called ethnic groups have conjured up, and/or have repeatedly expressed respecting their narrow-mindedness relative to the indigenous people of earth. However; I must be forthright inform you “to make no mistake, while I neither condone, nor support and/ or defend the incendiary and ridiculous actions of my relatives; Troy Sancho and Dwayne Sancho – I shall not distance myself from Troy Sancho and Dwayne Sancho and/or any member of the kinship of Sancho; not now and not ever . After all they possess the DNA of Sancho – and that’s good enough for me”.

Criminals are as sophisticated as politicians. In fact, it is a rather difficult task to decipher one from the other. I believe; and with great reasons, the vast majority of those seeking public office are inclined and/or influenced by lust for power and ill-gotten personal gains. This love affair with greed includes existing at the experience and expense of the people. Again criminals and politicians are masters at deception. Their expressions are for the most part, calculated and misleading. Politicians often adopt the mistaken view it is their right. It is not a privilege to be elected to serve our people. They expect to be handsomely rewarded. Again there is simply and rarely much difference between the criminals and the politicians. Both are existing at the expense of the society.

On May 6, 2002, Mark Anthony Sancho was shot dead on Mandela Avenue and two others - Junior Callendar and Osmond Forester - were admitted to a city hospital in a critical condition. Mark Anthony Sancho was killed as a result of bullets fired from a moving vehicle – the drive-by shooting. This sensational event troubled many. The vast majority of Guyanese recorded it as a fly-by night incident. However it destroyed the life of a distraught mother. This female Sancho never recovered from the loss of life of her son. However, the great trouble is few cared enough to bother themselves to ask his mother and the other members of his immediate relatives how they are doing. The society has become numb to pain and suffering. But the victim’s mother never recovered. The victim’s wife relocated. It is very factual, not only is the deceased a victim but also the members of the immediate relatives of the deceased are victims. Therefore in the last seven years, the laundry list of members of the people of Sancho, Campbell, Friday, Kissoon, Solomon, and Young have been murdered. Several others have forfeited their lives as a result of criminal negligent homicide, and reckless endangerment – vehicular manslaughter and occupational hazard. The most confounding are the deaths of Eddy Sancho [pork-knocker], Donald Sancho [pork-knocker], Delon Sancho [pork-knocker], Vibert Sancho, Troy Sancho, Vivian Joseph, Frankie Rodrigues, Walcott, Cato, and Clifton Young.

Perhaps you will pray to your God to deliver our people out of the hands of evil individuals who are criminalizing and dehumanizing our people and communities. More-over say a prayer for my people while you are it…why upon this earth any god will allow teenagers mere schoolboys to become influenced by criminal elements and participate in criminal and heinous crimes denying themselves childhood is simply beyond my imagination. Clearly, the creative force is moving all too slowly for my tastes. It forces me to wonder whether such force has stopped functioning all together these days.
While I am convinced some sort of superior force reproduced all that is know and unknown I am not so sure today- whatever it was and/or is - is really listening to the wailing of our people. I am crying today, with no tears flowing down my face. I read recently another Sancho a victim of criminal acts of violence in Guyana. But however, what really got to me is the fact another Sancho is a perpetrator of criminal acts as produced by Rondell Rawlins and his gang. The fact that this Sancho is merely a little boy is even more troubling. I believe, parents, immediate relatives, the systems of extended family, and the communities have allowed our babies to walk down the pathway to doom and gloom.
These last seven years has indeed produced a rough-time for the kinship of Sancho. Too many has been victimized. Two members of the kinship of Sancho are known to be mustered in an environment of criminal minds and participate in illegal activities in Guyana. I know neither Dwayne Sancho nor Troy Sancho could not be identified with criminal element were they birthed in the colony of British Guiana. I am positive; the old-timers would have murdered them before they suffered from such “shame and disgrace”, as they were fond of saying, as they administered judgments on our rear ends and elsewhere. We are guilty as charged. But in the final analysis Dwayne Sancho and Troy Sancho are the ultimately the persons who must shoulder the blame for their own actions. Dwayne Sancho and Troy Sancho will bare the consequences of their actions. I still cry for Troy Sancho and others and now Dwayne Sancho has followed in the footsteps of Troy Sancho, I am aware my relatives Dwayne Sancho and Troy Sancho will have lived no useful life at all. And that saddens and sickens my very soul. But I take solitude that my mother and the majority of her generation are not here to witness the undoing of our people. I know; that would simply stated be too much for them to bear. Many of them had had their difficulties with the Sancho folksongs therefore you can well imagine how they would have reacted to members of the kinship of Sancho being described as criminals and homicidal maniacs.
This eye-pass, this disrespecting, this blatant disregard for my people, our people must be brought to an immediate end. It can not be too soon enough for me. What wrong has Sancho done Rondell Rawlins for him to recruit, and/or encourage our young boys to be his accomplishes? Why did not Rondell Rawlins chase our babies away from him? For Rondell Rawlins and other to lead my young relatives to forfeit their lives is too sickening for me to comprehend. I am really hurting inside. I never could have imagined I would be alive to be a witness to the disrepute that has befallen my people of Sancho.
I charge the communities; the non-governmental organizations must shoulder the responsibility to prevent reoccurrences. I can recall having been birthed in the era following the so-called split in the colony of British Guiana; I can recall that that era the adults were disciplinarians. I can assure you regardless of the difference of ethnicity discipline were dispensed whenever and wherever adjudged necessary. In fact, I grew up hearing behave like a Sancho. I believe troy Sancho and Dwayne Sancho never heard such refrain. They were perhaps never subjected to such disciplinary measures. The entire villages, and communities, all seemed involved in the child rearing process. Perhaps, such practices, similar to that of the extended family are all now a thing of the past. Such statements must sound like fair tales to our youths these days. What is the meaning of this? Why is this happening to the people of Sancho?
I am perturbed; that a number of our youngsters will continue to follow suit in such an unwholesome fashion.
How upon this earth can anyone of sound mind love what has transpired in recent times in Guyana- and particularly in the so-called African communities, on the East Sea Coast of Demerara and on the East Bank of the Demerara River? I believe any man who used boys to perpetuate mayhem – and other immoral acts is a disgrace to his kinship, his ancestry, his ethnicity, his nation and his people and humanity as a whole.
Why did Dwayne Sancho join Rondell Rawlins and his gang? Did Dwayne Sancho kill anybody? When did he join the gang? Was he compelled to join? What is his sense of self-worth? What’s his appreciation of his ancestry? Why in the name of creation has he chosen to display self-hatred? How could he muster the courage to be so inhumane? Why has he chosen to dishonor his heritage? What manner of punishment should be meted out to him? Was it racism? Was it related to illegal drugs trade? Who gave him the weapons? Does he have an idea how the guns were procured? Whether politicians are involved as many of us believe?
There are certainly more questions than answers.
It is known, and accepted, wherever, there is poverty; there is high incidents of criminal activity. In the period, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the colonial authorities of the colony of British Guiana, was very concerned with the problem of crime in the city of Georgetown. The so-called criminals were referred to as the centipede. Dorothy Rice was murdered in 1913. was one of the people who participated in the labour class protest known as the Ruimveldt Riots of December 1905. it is said members of the centipede were among those who
I have no idea how any of either four or five generations of my Sancho ancestors would have dealt with this image; with this barrage of ill-wind which has blown upon the people of Sancho in the last seven years or there about. Troy Sancho and Dwayne Sancho are known to have rum amuck with filthiness of crimes so horrendous, it is beyond description. It is beyond my comprehension. Certainly no argument can be raised projecting them as heroes
I am cognizant; Rondell Rawlins and those of his nature –such Taylor and the child soldiers of Sierra Leone - who will allow teenagers to trod down the path of ill repute - are unconscionable and despicable human beings.
Further more I beg all the people of Guyana to rise up and to take back your sons, your daughters, your villages, your communities, your institutions, from those who practice ill-will towards our shared experiences, our heritage and our kinships.

Evidence has emerged that the gang controlled by Guyana’s most wanted man, Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins, consists mainly of teenage boys who fled from their homes in the village of Buxton.


Recent evidence has brought out that many of the members of the gang are no more than 17 years old.
Dwayne Sancho, who was captured by the security forces on Monday in a trail near Ituni, is only 14 years old, while Otis Fiffee, called ‘Mud Up,’ who was killed during the initial raid two Fridays ago, and Robin Chung, called ‘Chung Boy’ were mere 17 and 16 years old respectively.

Initially, Fiffee’s age was stated as 21 years old; however, when this newspaper visited Buxton yesterday during his funeral, the age on his coffin was stated as 17. His parents had given the earlier age.
There is evidence that Rawlins and other senior members of his gang had initially recruited the teenagers as look-outs while the gang was hiding out in the village of Buxton.

After they were flushed out by the security forces, some of the young men, who were already a part of the gang, went with them.

The parents of these young men, during recent interviews, indicated that their children left their homes despite several pleas for them to refrain from the criminal activities.

Speaking with this newspaper yesterday, Sancho’s mother, Karen, said that her son had joined the gang just as he became a teenager.

She said that on several occasions he was forcibly returned home by older relatives, who had urged him to change his ways.

However, according to his mother, the last time she saw him was several months ago, when he packed all of his clothes, stole her money and fled the house.

She said that she visited the Brickdam Police Station yesterday after she learnt that her son was captured, but was unable to speak with him.

“I carry food for him,” the woman said.

Sancho, who was discovered in a trail hungry, reportedly told investigators that he had survived in the jungle on kokerite and water.

Chung’s mother said that she learnt of her son’s death from yesterday’s edition of the newspapers. She said that she had not seen her son in quite a while.

These sentiments were also expressed by Fiffee’s mother, Wendy Fiffee, in a previous interview.

“I talk to he over and over! He get licks all. He used to say, ‘nah mind he business, people ah cochore and dem go dead,’ and all dem things.”

Eyewitnesses to the Bartica massacre had indicated that most of the gunmen were ‘young boys’.
But what could have led to these young men throwing their lives away to join a gang, knowing that the consequences invariably lead to certain death?

Many villagers are of the opinion that this is a result of constant Police harassment and profiling of the youths of Buxton. The young men became sympathizers with the gunmen.

“Dis boy was a quiet boy, but after Police keep harassing he and dem other boys in the village, he run away from home and I never use to hear from he,” Fiffee’s aunt, Wendy Roberts, had stated.

“Everybody scared of the Police! The young men, when they see Police, they run fuh they life; they ain’t gat fuh do nothing,” she added.

She added that because of such incidents no one feels safe in the community anymore, and some have chosen to flee the community because of the constant harassment.

“I remember another lady son de run away because Police always picking he up, and de next time she see he back, he de dead; and de thing is when dem run away you don’t hear from them until Police kill dem, and then you hear dat dem responsible for a set ah killings,” one resident said.

It was hardly any different for Simeon Ramcharran. A sister said that he left home in 2002 and never returned.

She said that in his younger days he was a bad boy, but not in the violent sense of the word. The Police would come to the house because people pointed fingers at him every time something happened in the village. “Even if he ain’t do something, them would say is he.”

She said that as her children became older, she and her brother clashed repeatedly, and that she could not keep having the Police visit her home.

Simeon left and lived with a girl on East Bank Demerara. The sister said that she soon heard that he was in Buxton, but by then it was too late. She said that he called in the early days, and when advised to leave, he would say that he was into something and that he could not come out.

“I use to attack the Police for him when they tried to assault him.”

His mother was philosophical about his death. “You live by the sword, you die by the sword.” She was dry-eyed while her daughters were in tears over their brother’s death.

The sisters also acknowledged their brother’s selfish streak. “He never catered for his mother or for anybody in the house. He never gave anybody anything.”

They are, however, prepared to bury him, and today they will visit the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary to identify the body.

‘Child killers’ phenomenon a source of grave concern - AFC
The Alliance for Change (AFC) yesterday said that there should be sociological study into the root cause of the phenomenon of child killers.
According to party leader, Raphael Trotman, even if the current crop of child killers was to be wiped out if there was no investigation and intervention at the stage of the root causes then the next crop would be even more dangerous than present.
Trotman alluded to the fact that the new breed of criminals was becoming younger and younger with criminals such as Nasty Man and others having been spawned ever since 1992.
Trotman said that his party was very concerned given that the young men were being adversely influenced and apparently did not see themselves as having a life in Guyana such as growing up, going to school, getting a job and being married among other things, “as God intended them to do”.
He noted that because of the prevailing circumstances, they (child killers) are being converted to crime.
Trotman emphasised the need to identify the root cause of crime. “What is driving young men at age 13 to take up an AK-47 and confront the security forces?”
He added that there needs to be a stance involving not just the shooting to death of these young men but to also understand the genesis of their actions.
“If you manage by some means to wipe out this entire gang then the ground still remains fertile for more like them to take their place and the next crop is going to be far worse…little effort.” has been going into the studies
Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, during the 2008 Budget debates, lauded advances by the police when he listed a number of persons who were shot and killed by the police.
He had elaborated on what he called politically motivated crimes, saying that such crimes had nothing to do with poverty in that some unemployed youths in their formative years can be influenced by politicians or social malcontents who wished to leverage their political agenda utilising various means, including the use of force and gangs.
Regarding the possibility of making the call through a resolve clause in a parliamentary motion, Trotman said that past experiences did not bode well for such a course of action.
He drew reference to the tabling of the legislation to legalise casino gambling where the AFC had asked for a study to be conducted by the University of Guyana and was staunchly denied by the ruling party, as was the case with a motion to review Guyana Power and Light.
He noted that the party was not ruling out the possibility of approaching Parliament to call for a sociological study.

Some other names linked to high profile murders in recent times are Nasty Man, 14, Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles who was arrested while still a teenager along with Dwight Da Silva and Quincy Evans among others.

Philosophical indeed are the words of Cecil Simeon Ramcharran’s mother: you live by the sword; you die by the sword. (KN 2008.06.18). Thus ends the murderous saga of the chief recruiter of the teenage Buxton gang of murderers headed by ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins.

His sister reportedly said that, “he called in the early days, and when advised to leave, he would say he was into something and cannot come out.” She was then quoted as saying, “I use to attack the police for him when they tried to assault him.”

Dwayne Sancho’s mother reportedly said her son joined the gang just after he became a teenager and that on several occasions he was forcibly returned home by older relatives who urged him to change his ways.

Otis Fiffee’s mother, Wendy Fiffee is quoted as saying, “I talk to he over and over! He get licks. He used to say, ‘ na mind me business, people a cochore and dem go dead…” This was a seventeen year old boy speaking to his mother, actually telling her he will kill people!

These people have sullied the good name of a most wonderful human being and humanitarian, Mother (Madam) Fiffee who used her God given talents to heal and preserve life. They should hang their heads in shame.

Now what is the common link here? Every single one of the mothers, sisters and relatives were and are aware of the linkage and involvement of their sons, siblings and relatives with the murderous ‘Fine Man’ Rawlings Buxton gang! Out of their own mouth cometh their complicity, albeit in apparent silence!

Simeon’s sister, even though she knew he was involved in murdering innocent people, acts of banditry and criminality, still, in her own words used to, “attack the police for him when they tried to assault him.”
Finally the dust is settling and the true picture is emerging. Not that it was not known. The problem is however, that it could not have been proven up until now.

Many of the residents in Buxton, in particular women, deliberately used their gender to aid fleeing bandits when being pursued by security forces.

They threw themselves upfront knowing the possibly political spin off should the security forces deal with then condignly.

Many formed body barriers, tactics used in the days of the “FBB or Fat Batty Brigade” where they were schooled by political aspirants, in preventing the police and security forces from making arrests.
Up to today, this is still the practice where women protesters are placed in the forefront.

They are used as the ‘vanguard’ which is a deliberate tactic to hinder effective police action; and in the event that force is used, those involved would have a propaganda bonanza to malign and demonize the security forces and Government.

It is public knowledge that many of these dead teenage bandits initially started their association with criminal elements and crime when they were recruited as eyes for the bandits at very tender ages.

These were the ones walking with expensive cell phones, securing themselves so as to alert the bandits of the movements of the security forces.

As look outs for ‘Fine man’ Rawlings gang, they were paid handsomely. You mean to tell me that the mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers and relatives of these ten, eleven and twelve year boys never asked from where they are getting these expensive cell phones, how they are paying for the calls, with what they are buying phone cards or from where they are getting all this money?

The fact is blood money was the reason why the gang could have safely ensconced itself for so long in Buxton.

Many in the village lent formidable support buoyed by the largess and blood money shared out by the bandits much to the chagrin, fear and disappointment of many others in the same village.

Yet in the same vein, we are being told that these baby bandits initially turned to a life of crime because of police harassment and the profiling of youths in Buxton? What crass nonsense!

Those who have encouraged this either by way of overt, covert, implicit or explicit support have knowingly or unknowingly unleashed upon themselves the forces of their own destruction.

Time is showing despite all of these machinations, the bandits are coming home not to roost, but in body bags to be buried.

That is what the complicity of silence, racial or crass ignorance and misguided political aspirations have led to: death, destruction, grief, sorrows and pain. God’s own words did say, “What ye sow, so shalt thee reap.”

You sow death, poverty and destruction and you are reaping the rewards of your actions — death, poverty and destruction.

This is an immutable universal spiritual law beyond the reaches of man. It is the same physical law that says something like, for every action there is an equal and exacting reaction.

Each and every one of us will have a time to atone for our sins, for whatever is sewn in the dark shall be brought to light, political expediency or pragmatism notwithstanding. Every single day this is happening around us, yet we choose to shut our eyes to this reality and blame others for our actions.

Now, having brought to light this complicity, I simply ask, can these people be brought before the Courts for “knowingly aiding and abetting criminal activities” leading to murder, robbery, rape, death and destruction?

Where are the fathers?
DEAR EDITOR,
One of the questions that most people are grappling with is how is it possible that those who are responsible for the recent massacres are mere teenagers.
Kaieteur News reported recently that the gang which is controlled by wanted man Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins consists of mainly teenage boys - Otis Fiffe - 17 years old, Robin Chung -16 years old and Dwayne Sancho - 19 years old.
At such tender ages these young men should have been in school studying, but instead, they were a part of a notorious gang, planning who next to rob and kill.
Where are the fathers? This is the question that startles me.
From the recent media reports, it seems as though only the mothers are around to give accounts for the lives of these young boys. Had their fathers been in the home, the outcome of their lives may have been different.
Many young men today have been raised in families where fathers have neglected their responsibilities to their wives and children. Many young men are looking for love, protection and someone whom they can admire, someone they can look up to.
When fathers fail to be that someone, then men such as Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins will take that place in the lives of our youths. The result is our children become criminals in society.
Part of a father’s responsibility towards his family is to love, protect, provide, teach and care for his family. The presence of the father in the home affects how a child thinks and behaves. The presence of the father in the home also influences the values with which a child grows and matures.
To a great extent, the father’s presence influences the outcome of the child’s life.
I encourage every father to be a man and face up to his responsibilities. What our children become tomorrow greatly depends upon our fathers today.

Two bandits armed with guns robbed a New Amsterdam businesswoman of $800,000 in cash at her home before escaping on Saturday night.
A police press release stated that the lawmen are investigating a robbery under arms that occurred at about 9:30 pm on Saturday at Penitentiary Walk, New Amsterdam, during which businesswoman Angela Sancho and her husband were attacked and robbed by the two men armed with handguns.
Police said that investigations revealed that the victims had just returned home and were about to exit their vehicle when they were held up by the two men who took away $800,000 in cash and a cell phone and escaped.

NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE - Two gunmen staged a brazen robbery on Saturday night just about 200 yards from the gate of the New Amsterdam Prisons, and made a clean escape.

The victims, who did not want to be photographed, were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and $18,000 worth of jewellery right in front of their home at Penitentiary Walk in New Amsterdam.
Wolford Sancho, a 48-year-old, and his wife, 46-year-old Angela Sancho, both operate a business concern in the New Amsterdam Market and another at Strand and Pitt Streets.
Their drama began to unfold at just about 21:30 hours on Saturday. The couple had earlier closed business for the night and had driven home. After Mr. Sancho parked his car in front of his residence, which is right on the corner of Penitentiary Walk and Ferry Street, he was securing the trunk.
His wife had just stepped out of the vehicle, and was standing by the door on the passenger side, about to lock it. He recalled that he saw the two men as they strolled in his direction. “Two guys just come across and stick us up at gun point. No masks…both men had small arms.
They ordered me to lie on the ground, empty my pockets and tell me to hand over my phone. They got a silver band with gold on it worth about $18,000.” They ordered Mrs. Sancho to hand over whatever money she had, “They demanded - ‘Where the money deh?’ That (the money) was on the car seat. It was in a bag but you can’t estimate how much money right now, but it was in a normal business bag that had the money, her ID card, bank books, bank statement and other things.”
After the couple saw the guns they complied. The money represented what they had earned earlier in the day. “Everything happened within five minutes, not no big long thing. They say lie down on the ground and that’s it. By the time they get the bag I was already on the ground, but she did not have to lie down.” The men collected the loot and left on foot, “They left the same way they came. They came through Ferry Street into Penitentiary Walk.
When they were approaching they were coming slow, just casual. They retreat by walking a little distance and then start running.” Being a man around the town, he said, he still was unable to identify the bandits, “I don’t know them! You does know people, but you don’t know everybody. So I don’t know them.”
The matter was reported to Central Police Station about ten minutes later, “The Police responded quickly, but by then they had already cleared the way. The Police make some circles but they ain’t get anybody…so far.”

This is the first time he was the victim of an armed robbery, but had small incidents, “I am traumatized but fit to go.” The businessman said that never would he have imagined being robbed so close to home, and moreso that close to the New Amsterdam Prisons. “On the road, just on the corner, got street lights. So if you stop your car and you see these two persons coming around the corner you wouldn’t think it was bandits.
That is why I move so cautious, without fear, because it was so close. The guys said, ‘If you mek any noise both of y’all dead,’ so we didn’t make any noise. I think it was a well planned and executed act.”

Masked men steal guns from home

Two masked men broke into a house at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway yesterday and stole two firearms and a video camera.

So far one person has been arrested and is helping police with their investigations.

Police in a statement said that around 9:45 am Bibi Sancho secured her Lot 377 Yarrowkabra home which is in the upper flat of a two-storey building and went out for a while leaving her maid in the lower flat of the building. The two suspects broke a window on the lower flat, entered the building and tied up the maid after which they broke into the upper flat and stole a .380 browning pistol, a 12-gauge single barrel shotgun and a video camera.

Woman accused of ganja in egg trays remanded

A 36-year-old Turkeyen woman who was allegedly caught at the Ogle airport with cannabis concealed in a stack of egg trays was on Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
Michelle Sancho, a shopkeeper of Lot 478 Third Street, Turkeyen denied a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, when it was read in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on May 13, Sancho had in her possession 280 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Reports are that on the day in question ranks from the police narcotics branch acting on information received went to the Ogle airport.

When Sancho arrived, the ranks identified themselves and asked to search the goods she was taking to Ekereku in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni area.

During the search according to reports, a stack of five egg trays was searched. When ranks removed all the eggs on the top tray they discovered two holes with two black bags stuffed inside.
A search of the trays unearthed a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds and stems.

She was told of the offence and arrested.

Sancho was represented by attorney-at-law Vic Puran.

The matter will continue at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Extraordinary Prejudice
The protest by some individual in Barbados against the flying of the Union Jack at half-mast in Barbados, on the death of the Pope is Extraordinary but the following instance of Prejudice against the Catholic Church is the limit. “The Catholic Standard” states that it heard with no little surprise a few days ago that Miss A. K. Elliott, daughter of the Catholic Head Teacher of our Bachelor’s Adventure School who left for Jamaica to enter the Shortwood Teachers Training Institution, was refused admission on account of her religion – Miss Elliott is a Catholic. The statement savoured a of a canard, but is was proved true that she had been refused admission, and that Mr. Sconce, our commissioner of education, had been asked by cable, if he had any objections to her being sent to St. Joseph’s College, a Training Institution conducted by the Catholic sisters of St. Francis. No doubt every unprejudiced mind will regard such conduct as scandalous, Shortwood, “The Standard”, rightly says is a government institution, supported by the taxpayers of the island, amongst whom are Catholics. The students sent from this colony are maintained there at the expense of the taxpayers of British Guiana, in general – Protestants and Catholics. Both Jamaica and British Guiana are British Colonies. Why, then, should a British subject be ostracized solely on account of religion in a British colony from a British institution supported by Catholics as well as by protestants? I have no desire to initiate a religious controversy but this incident speaks volumes, and the world owes several of it greatest blessings to Catholic minds.

I had some unpleasant travelling in an uncovered corial one week in the rainy season. My assistants were three small Indian boys. The journey was three tides each way, which took us three nights of six hours and three days each of the same time of six hours. The burning sun alternated with frequent showers in the daytime, and we had heavy showers during the night. To add to our inconvenience, two of the boys made themselves sick by scouring the bush in the neighbourhood of Hittia, and eating freely of the wild fruits they found there, and then surfeiting themselves on sour milk at the settlement of an hospitable family. We could get no one to hire on the way; and so, cutting palm leaves and covering our invalids from the sun and rain, we wearily paddled onwards. The adverse tide met us and added to our difficulties. But as a rule disagreeable things, like other things, come to an end, and we reached Saints' Lust at last.
Our kind friend Mrs. Hartmann physicked the sick boys, and sent over to Zion and Prosperity, or "Sodom and Gomorrah," as people persist in calling the place, to engage a hand if possible. The messenger soon returned to say- that one "Sancho "would go with us for a certain consideration. This was good news. I sent over immediately to say that we would call for him at the turning of the tide; and with my mind, so far, at ease, I went in to rest and to partake of the hospitality of the Hartmanns.
When I called for Mr. Sancho (he insisted on the title), I found him, with the exception of a Lapp or loin cloth (substitute for the fig-leaves), quite naked. His skin, which should have been black, was generally of a dirty brown hue, as if suffering from skin disease: but he appeared to possess some pretension to dandyism, as his hair was oiled and carefully platted. I suspect his clothes, if he had any, were delayed at the washing, and he was then settling a lingual account with his washerwoman. He was much excited, gesticulating with a cutlass in his hand, and vociferating in the Dutch Creole talk of the river. The
woman—the object of his wrath—did not seem to think her case unjustifiable, for she was equally loud and furious.
I called out to Mr. Sancho to say that the tide was going, and to request him to nurse his anger, and postpone the passé des langues until his return. He laughed and said "the woman was too bad;” then giving her some directions in a subdued voice; he got into the corial, much to my relief. I confess that I soon became very ungrateful for the help he was giving me, and began to resent his sitting between the wind and my—olfactory organ. Mr. Sancho had not been with us five minutes when he turned round and begged that I would give him a prayer- book. "What for?" I said. He wanted to learn the religion of the Church that he might join. "What religion had he been learning hitherto?" The religion of the chapel. "Why did he not continue?" His fellow-members were too bad, and told lies upon him. "Why not appeal to the catechist?" He was no better than the others, and didn't do him justice. "What was the lie?" That he, Sancho, was an obeah man. "Was he then an obeah man?" No! He was a good Christian, and helped people out of their troubles, as we are all commanded to do. I advised Mr. Sancho to return to his chapel and make the truth of his innocence apparent to all his brethren. An indifferent student of the religion of the chapel, I said, would probably make a bad churchman, and we were not particularly anxious to include him in our small number, even although, by his own statement, he possessed the odour of sanctity; but that at any rate, if the sanctity were questionable, the odour was undoubted.
But notwithstanding his denial of obeah practices, Sancho was a notorious practitioner in the art, and had a school of disciples. He was a terror to the people, who obliged him to the utmost of their power in his most insolent demands. Apart from the antagonism of Obeahism with Christianity, any one who knows the depth of its wickedness cannot refrain from detesting it, and hoping not only that the laws may be vigorously enforced, but that diligent search might be made to detect and bring these evil-doers—both the " doctor " and his patients—to condign punishment.
Once I met Sancho at an Indian settlement, and knowing his object there, I drove him off with a threat of arrest. The magistrate was asked to have him sent off the river. "Cuibono?" he replied. "When I was first appointed to the district, I instituted a crusade against obeah men, and cleared the river for a time; but it only made an opening for others, who with the prestige which accompanies a new doctor of any type, drove an increased business. No, no! Bring Sancho before me on a specific charge, and with proof of his guilt, and he shall be "catted," if you will; but be advised, and let obeah die out of itself." Of course I disagreed with him.
I knew an obeah man in another part of the country, who supported his family in comfort and luxury, and educated his children on the earnings he derived from his vile art. But his prosperity was exceptional.
Twelve months after my first acquaintance with Sancho, he could just crawl into his corial and paddle from settlement to settlement, compelling the Indian women to bring down to him cassava, fish, and firewood : at this time his feet up to his knees were bandaged, and the ulcerous flesh was dropping off. Six months more, and he persuaded a half- bred Arawak, who had taken lessons from him, to receive him into his own banal, and feed him, under the most terrible threats of evil. He shortly after died there, and the owner of the dwelling, fleeing from the dead, was persuaded to return with some others, and bury the remains of Sancho.
The truth of the adage that "a prophet has no honour in his own country" is exemplified in the mutual faith of Indians in Negro Obeah, and of Negroes in Indian Piai-ism. When the blacks and their descendants of all colours (who may be faithful to the traditions of Obeahism) seek— without obtaining—the expected aid, they resort to the Indian piaiman and so likewise the Indian, failing to get the required relief from the doctors of his tribe, applies to the black bush doctor.

The Antigua Trades & Labour Union (AT&LU) has made a forceful plea for workers to report all cases of occupational injury, lest they are denied their rights and privileges under the country's labour laws.
The appeal comes following the death of 30-year-old Carlton Fitzherald Sancho of Guyana, who succumbed to complications as a result of injuries he sustained after falling into an uncovered hot-mix tank on the property of his workplace, the Antigua Distillery Limited.
Sancho, a former police officer in his native Guyana, has reportedly been living in Antigua for the past three years with his sister Onika Dey.
The duo spoke to the Antigua Sun prior to Sancho's untimely death, at which time they expressed concern about the amount of publicity the case was receiving.
When prompted, it was revealed that not being a national of Antigua and Barbuda, Sancho was fearful that he would have been subjected to victimisation and loss of wages that would have come his way as a result of his incapacitation.
Further, Sancho told the SUN at the time that the ADL handled the payment and paperwork for his work permit, and as such, he did not want to upset management.
But General-Secretary (GS) of the AT&LU Stafford Joseph was adamant that an individual's nationality does not exempt him or her from receiving compensation once his/her legal status in the country has been deemed bona fide.
He said a number of cases have been reported to the union but were subsequently dropped.
Upon further inquiries by the union, it was found out that some of the employees were afraid, and said they decided not to pursue the matter because they were not "straight", or that their papers are still being processed.
"Nationality has nothing to do with it. The law makes it clear that if an employee or workman suffers personal injury by accident out of and during the course of such employment, his employer shall be liable to pay compensation in accordance with the provisions of this Act," Joseph said.
Joseph further explained that this compensation is separate and apart from regular wages or salaries. "If an employee gets injured on the job through occupational injury, Social Security does not pay for it.
"The form that you get from the doctor would indicate whether or not it is an actual occupational injury… once it is ascertained, that responsibility is for the employer to now take care of."
According to Joseph, the employer would also be responsible for compensating the employee up to 25 per cent of one's basic earnings.
Additionally, any medical bills arising during the time of the employee's recuperation should legally be the responsibility of the employer.
At the end of the "sick leave" period, the worker is then required to undergo a complete physical assessment in order for the doctor to make a determination of incapacity if any.
This determination will then ascertain the temporary nature or permanency of the injury. "So if there is any loss of use of functionality of any member of limb of the body, then that is a separate compensation from the employer."
On Sunday, Dey told the SUN that she was worried that the company will not foot the bill for funeral arrangements.
However, Joseph said that due to the archaic laws on the books, the employer may not be liable to incur the expenses involved in transporting the body.
"The whole document needs to be looked into, because the average person is not aware of it. But the law still states that where death results, the actual cost of the burial of the deceased workman must be the responsibility of the employer, along with the compensation. It never said anything about transporting a body out of state though."
The SUN has learnt that Sancho's reportedly estranged wife will be on island by this morning from Guyana to claim the body.
The couple has two children.

A 30-year-old man is currently a patient at the Edward’s Ward at the Holberton Hospital where he is nursing what is strongly felt are severe third degree burns to both legs.
Carlton Fitzherald Sancho, originally of Guyana, is an employee at the Antigua Distillery Limited (ADL) where the incident occurred on Monday, shortly after 6 p.m., during his four to 12 work shift. According to preliminary reports, the injured man fell into one of three uncovered tanks which measure between 10 to 12 ft in depth and which are usually kept closed.
It is further reported that the tanks are to be kept closed but at times, they are kept uncovered for convenience.
The Antigua Sun spoke to the patient at the hospital at which time he explained that he had gone to the hot mix area to change the wash – a mixture of molasses, steam and yeast used to make the alcohol – as was mandatory. He said on his way to the area, all three of the tanks that are used used to release waste were open.
Sancho said after checking the tank, the last attendant on shift should ensure that they are resealed.
He said, “I end up in it because right where I have to walk, there are pipes running to the big tanks; and because of the set-up, you have to ‘duck down’ (bend down). I done know that they supposed to be locked, so when I raise up my head now I see one of the pipes, and when I duck down to go forward to continue walking to the tank, I dropped straight in the hole.”
The young man added that it was his quick thinking and his knowledge of the tanks' set-up which allowed him to be able to avert further injury.
“I didn’t panic…so when I was dropping in I opened out my hands quickly and as soon as my hands touch the surface, I use my hand strength and pitch up myself out of there.”
Realising the gravity of the situation, Sancho told the SUN that he immediately started hollering for assistance as, even while he did not feel the burns, he knew that he needed to seek immediate medical attention. Soon after, the shift supervisor responded to his cries for help.
The supervisor then proceeded to remove Sancho’s boots and pants in an effort to impede the spread of the heat and the water which by that time had saturated the fabric.
“He take up the hose one time and spray it on me and then he come to lift me to carry me to the vehicle…when he do that, me skin start coming off in me hand,” Sancho stated.
He was immediately transported to the hospital.
Attempts were made to contact one of the shareholders of the ADL proved futile. Sancho, however, told the SUN that several members of the family owned group have visited him since his hospitalisation and are attempting to come to some agreement as to his way forward in terms of treatment and recovery.

Carlton Fitzherald Sancho, an employee of the Antigua Distillery Limited (ADL) who fell into one of three uncovered hot mix tanks at his workplace, the Antigua Distillery Limited (ADL), has died.
The 30-year-old Guyana national succumbed to burn related complications and died at approximately 8 p.m. last Saturday, mere hours after friends and relatives took to the airwaves in an urgent appeal for O-negative blood.
The preliminary cause of death according to medical personnel is said to be stress ulcers, which in medical term is referred to as stress gastritis, the sudden swelling of the stomach lining. Left untreated, this may lead to ulcers and bleeding, and may occur after burns, shock, trauma or severe illness.
Sancho endured third degree burns to his legs and his groin and stomach areas on 11 Feb., when during his four to 12 work shift, he fell into the tank which measures 10 to 12 ft in depth.
A day after the incident, the Antigua Sun spoke to the patient at the hospital at which time he explained that he had gone to the hot mix area to change the wash, which is a mixture of molasses, steam and yeast used to make the alcohol. As he manoeuvred to make his way from one side of the plant to the other he slipped and fell.
The young man and his sister, Onika Dey, were visited by a few members of the ADL management who reportedly promised to undertake the task of securing further medical attention, including overseas treatment if necessary. But up until the time of his death, Dey said that the help had not been forthcoming.
Hours after her brother's death, Dey told this newspaper that she is not sure what would be her next step. The obviously distraught woman, also a Guyana national, said that she and Sancho attempted to discuss with one of the brothers who managed the ADL the prospect of having her brother flown overseas for further assessment and treatment.
However, she said that little assistance was rendered, contradicting initial offers for aid. Dey also said that she is now fearful that the company may not want to undertake the expenses of flying Sancho back to Guyana for burial.
"The company may not want to fly him away and they may say is not their job. They only came back the Friday to bring his money from work, and they didn't come back again. Even when we called to tell them that he needed blood, and they didn't do anything."
The bereaved added that after they were making no headway with the initial appeal for blood, she suggested to the ADL management that they bring Sancho's father to the country, as he was not only a correct blood match, but will also be able to help care for their kin.
"He said that he was going with that idea. Then he called back and say he don't think he's going to bother with that yesterday (Saturday) when he died, then we call the boss to tell him and he wouldn't even answer his phone. Is today (Sunday) my cousin called and my cousin got him," she said.
Dey told the SUN that she will be seeking the counsel of an attorney to see what should be the family's recourse.
The SUN attempted to contact management of ADL but was unsuccessful.

"Compare Bread" will soon open its doors to the Linden community but it has already gotten positive responses from residents who have sampled the product.

Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Henry said "Compare Bread is a partnership business and our main focus is to impact the lives of residents here. We put people first and we know for sure the profit will follow," he said.

Henry has lived overseas for many years and although he had successfully established himself as a businessman abroad, he said he has always wanted to return to Linden to help to develop the town.

The journey to establishing the business started two years ago. Henry said at first the partners had toyed with the idea of opening a small bakery attached to another partnership business, Kresent Mall. However, after careful consideration he said the partners realised that neither the location nor the space was adequate.

About 18 months ago they were able to purchase the building that once housed Patnomike in Industrial Area, McKenzie. Since that time the partners have invested over US$2.5M to equip the bakery with state-of-the-art equipment. "Not in my wildest dream have I thought that we would have had to invest this amount of money. We had to take nothing and make it into something," Henry said.

Technical Director of Compare Bread, Paul Chan, said it was important to maintain a quality service. Chan is an expert in the baked products industry who has worked in more than 25 plants worldwide. He said management intends to focus on the breads and tennis rolls and while their long-term goal is to tap into the international market, their immediate goal is to secure a place on the local market. The bakery will operate an outlet from a central location in McKenzie which it intends to develop into a café.

According to Financial Advisor Reginald Sancho the company is currently testing several of its breads with its training staff. They started off with a team of ten which has since grown to over 40. He said the company plans to employ more than 125 Lindeners by year end. Currently staff work a 12-hour shift but once operations come fully on stream the company intends to operate six days per week, 24 hours per day with three shifts.

The partners say some of their greatest dreams for the factory are to have its employees absorb 45% of the ownership and establish a credit union and a day care facility for the employees' children. (Cathy Wilson)

Favourites Stir Excitement Ahead of Silver Park Horserace Meeting


The favourites have been stirring much excitement with one week to go for the Silver Park Turf Club of No.6 Village West Coast Berbice (WCB) one day horserace meeting on Sunday at their Racetrack.

The meeting was rescheduled from Sunday July 10th to this Sunday and will see eight races being run. Organising Secretary of the Turf Club, Compton Sancho and Treasurer Ganesh Singh, who is the son of Honourary President Balwan Singh, told Kaieteur Sport that the favourite horses for the feature event have been turning in eye-catching performances in practice, which have left fans buzzing with excitement at the mouth watering prospects on stream for Sunday.

The pair disclosed that leading favourite for the feature ‘C' Class race, Mr. Naljit's chestnut mare, Sunday Haven, turned in a blistering performance in a four furlong gallop on her return to action after a six month break. Another favourite, Small Axe of the Michael Simms Stables is also reported to be in top condition for the showdown, while Donna of the J. Farinha Stables is also set to be the upset ‘kid on the block'.

Sancho further disclosed that among the other racehorses expected to challenge for the $100,000 purse in the feature race are Ulea, Royal Madrid, Rea Pele of the Colin Elcock Stables and Just in Time of the Bharrat Stables. The race is sponsored by Dara Singh of Bush Lot WCB.

The 3 year Classic will also produce some excitement with the long awaited clash between Sarafiena of the Jumbo Jet Stables and Pacemaker of Michael Simms Stables. Other leading racehorses in the reckoning in that race include Lets Dance, Born to Dance of the Elcock Stables and Classic Bow of the Ramnarine Stables.

The race is sponsored by Romel Jagmohan of WCB. The ‘G' Class event has been sponsored by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales of Bush Lot and the 2 years old contest by Colin Elcock and the Silver Park TC. An ‘F' Class race has also been added to the programme.

The event was rescheduled due extensive works to improve the racetrack, which includes some amount of resurfacing and maintenance works to the stables and other infrastructural work.

Silver Park stages grand one-day meet Sunday
THE Silver Park Turf Club will run off a grand one-day horse race meeting on Sunday at Number Six Village, West Coast Berbice.
Seven races are carded for the meeting, with over $1 000 000 in prize money and trophies will also up for grabs.
According to reports, the track is in fine shape and horseracing fans will witness some of the country's top horses in action.
D. Manroop's Dark Boy horse is the talk of the town and has sent a warning to his rivals with a blistering four-furlong gallop. But from the Elcock stable, Temptation is well set and is ready to take on her rivals.
Among the other horses that did well at gallops are Robertson’s Maria's Pleasure, L. Crawford's Tirona, Kevin Shaggy, White Cliff, Track Star and Snoopy.
Over 50 horses have registered for the meeting that starts at 13:00 hrs.
Horse owners in Demerara and Corentyne Berbice will benefit from half of their transportation costs, according to organising secretary, Compton Sancho.

Marsha Sancho Accused of Robbing German National

A San Fernando woman accused of robbing a 74-year-old German national of US$31,000, 10,000 euro travellers cheques and euro $8,500 has been placed on $30,000 bail.

Marsha Sancho, 26, of Plus Gardens, Cocoyea, San Fernando was granted bail on Wednesday when she appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court.

Sancho is jointly charged with two unknown people with robbing German retiree Wilheam Hoss on June 16, 2006, at his home on Forres Avenue, Cocoyea, San Fernando.

PC Roger Nicolas laid the charge.

When Sancho appeared in court, police prosecutor Sgt Haricharan Kassie recommended summary trial.

Sancho pleaded not guilty.

Wellington then granted her bail to be approved by the Clerk of Peace. The matter was adjourned to June 28.

Sancho is also accused of robbing the foreigner T&T$300.

The elderly man was present in court on Wednesday when the matter was called.

Police said Hoss and three other people were liming at his home around 8 pm on June 16 when he was held up and robbed.

Sancho-Alder, who was born in Guyana, had been living in the Rock aways and working as a nurse for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Alonzo, Gustavus, RoseAnn and Buddy Sancho.
She is survived by her children, Jacent, VereAnn, Davese, Leah and Vasco; her grandchildren, Nickecia, Shomari, Errica, Chennel, Dameo, Devante, Brianne, Justin, Bobby, Tyra, Jasmine, Shanniece, Dante and Vakel; her aunt Stella Dover; her nieces and nephews, Olive, Shelon, Monte, Alphin, Teresa, Steven, Michael Sancho Jr., Michael, Ronald and Stephan; her siblings, Ruby, Olive, Eula, Barbara, Dora, Phyllis, Alwyn, Cecil and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were en trust ed with Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a service at Battalion Pentecostal Church in Arverne. Disposition was held at Rosehill Ceme tery in Linden, New Jersey.

Boy Loses Eye After Schoolmate Hurls Wood
A 14-year-old lost his left eye after another student struck him with a piece of wood that had a pointed edge.

Delon Sancho, of St. Mary's High School, underwent surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The boy said that he was walking down a stairway in the school on Wednesday when he felt something hit him hard in the eye.

“When I put me hand on me eye, I feel the thing inside hanging down and it was bleeding,” the boy said.

He said that the boy who threw the wood is a troublemaker in the school.

The injured boy's father, Compton Sancho, said the teen's mom, who is overseas, fainted upon hearing the news. Sancho said a teacher called him at about 16:10hrs to tell him what had transpired.

He arrived at the hospital just as his son was going into surgery.

The man said he asked a teacher who was at the hospital whether the school had called the police.

However, the teacher did not know, and Sancho went to his son's school, where he ensured that the police were contacted.

Two teachers, Sancho, and the attacker's aunt made a report.

Sancho said that according to the last information he received, the boy who injured his son was placed on $10,000 bail.

“The boy that throw the wood at my son said that he go fuh throw de wood at another boy, and the boy duck, and it hit me son. Are the students at that school children or are they fighters?” Sancho asked.

Sancho said he has often observed the students of the school exhibiting wayward, and sometimes violent, behaviour.

Patricia Adora Theresa Loncke (1945-1983)

Patricia Adora Theresa Loncke (1945-1983) BA, M. Phil., LRSM, LTCL. Outstanding Musical Composer.

Educated at Queenstown R. C. School, University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica.
She grew up surrounded by music. Her mother held the ATCL and LRSM diplomas in music and gave piano lessons. Her father was the first Guyanese to gain the violin LRSM and spent his weekends conducting the Princessville Orchestra and teaching and rehearsing the Brickdam R. C. Cathedral Choir where he was Choir master and organist.
She studied English at the Mona Campus of the UWI, enrolling simultaneously at the Jamaica School of Music. In music she gained Premier Prix in the Advanced Piano classes in 1970 and 1971, the Licentiate diploma of the Royal Schools of Music, and the Licentiate of the Trinity College of Music (in teaching).
Her paintings won prizes at Jamaica National Festival 1970, and she was awarded a Certificate for Creative Dance at UWI.
It was in Musical Composition that she excelled. One early composition at St. Rose’s was a song sung by the whole school to greet the Mother Superior of The Ursuline Convent on her feast day. She wrote in Jamaica “The Silk Cotton Tree,” “Country Holiday,” and “Variations on Folk Songs” for violin. An early achievement was “Kiskadee” published by the Guyana National History and Arts Council.
In Guyana she served as an officer of the Guyana Foreign Service. Awarded an Alliance Francaise Scholarship, she obtained a diploma in French studies at the University of Poitiers. Her compositions include two songs for soprano, a vocal duet, several piano solos, a pianoforte suite in six movements, violin solos, a Sonata and Rhapsody for violin and piano, a Rhapsody for violin and orchestra and orchestral suite for ten instruments.
Her compositions have been performed in the Caribbean, Europe, (especially Austria), the USA and West Africa, India, Burma and Latin America.

Grandma accused of carrying cocaine remanded

A 65-year-old grandmother accused of having 116 grammes of cocaine hidden on her at the Cheddi Jagan International airport, Timehri, was yesterday remanded to prison.

Mavis Carmen Sancho of Lot 3016 North Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics when she appeared before Acting Chief Magis-trate Cecil Sullivan.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, Sancho had in her possession 116 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) alleged that Sancho was an outgoing passenger on a flight to Barbados on the day in question. A CANU officer reportedly saw her in the departure lounge looking a bit uneasy. Upon checking the narcotic was allegedly found.

The matter continues at the Providence Magistrate's Court on January 11.
